Botox® Restylane® limited to stomatognathic use (areas of the mouth and jaw)
At Plano Parkway Dental we are proud to offer Botox and Restylane treatments in our practice. Botox is commonly associated with cosmetic enhancements like removing fine lines and wrinkles. However it can also be used for clinical applications. Botox can treat:
- TMJD and Migraines
- Clenching
- Bruxism or grinding
- High lip line or gummy smile
How do Botox and Restlane work?
Botox and Restylane work by attaching to the nerve endings of the muscles and preventing them from contracting all the way. This enables the muscles to remain relaxed. There is no loss of sensitivity and, when used correctly, it does not affect normal functions such as eating, speaking, or chewing.
What should I expect during treatment?
Treatment with Botox and Restlane usually take only 5-15 minutes. You should start to feel pain relief almost immediately. You will be required to follow a few simple recovery guidelines given by Dr. Taylor; limit physical activity for a short time after the injection, remain upright for several hours and refrain from rubbing or massaging the injection site. Rubbing and massaging may spread the treatment fluid to other, undesired areas.
How long do results last?
Results commonly last for up to four months. After extended use, your results may last longer as muscles may begin to atrophy. When pain or discomfort start to reoccur it is time for another visit. It is possible that after many treatments that your body may start to build up immunity, rendering your treatments less effective and requiring more during each injection. We recommend getting as little injected as necessary and extending the time between each treatment to prevent this from occurring.
Are there any side effects?
As with all medical procedures there are possible side effects and risks. For Botox and Restylane these are uncommon and temporary. Reported side effects include: bruising, temporary numbness, redness at injection site, muscle weakness, headaches, nausea, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, and temporary eye-lid droop. These side effects are associated with the injection and occur within the first week. Pregnant and breastfeeding individuals should not use Botox or Restylane.
